Johannesburg, Sunday 9:30 pm

Arrived JNB.  Completely uneventful.

We've eaten, showered.  Gina's already asleep and I'm not far behind.  Been fooling with the phone.  In theory, this is an international phone and I've purchased an international plan from Verizon.  But there's always some bit of drama.  Right now, though, texting seems to work, at least with the US.  I've got hotel internet so haven't really tried to run data (I have access to a small amount of data in the plan).  It's really hard to know how you're supposed to manage the data.  You have a small amount and if you exceed that, it's very expensive.  But, there's apparently not a real-time way to know your usage.  So, it's like wandering around near a cliff wearing a blindfold.

I have this idea though that since I have data on the phone, I should be able to set up a personal hot spot and then send postings through that.  Keep images small.  Don't know how much data that will use, but I'll experiment with that.  It'd be good to not have to upload all postings in transit or when I get back to Oregon.

It's warm and very nice here, by the way.  This is about our 10th stay at this hotel, so it feels like home.

All for now.  Tomorrow, we meet Andrew to pick up rental lens, plus he's purchased a few supplies for us.  Then shuttle back to airport, rent a car and find our way to Kruger.  Tomorrow night in Orpen camp.
